‘Memo’ is a theatrical solo piece for the violinist. The performer operates a small tape recorder on stage. Following precise instructions in the score, he or she makes live recordings of certain passages. The tape is played later in the performance, again according to precise instructions, in the style of a backing track – a dialogue between the reproduction of the past and the movements of the performer’s own subjectivity in the present.
