Stephen Hatfield: Selections from Best in House

  
Best In the House is a suite that compares Irish and Newfoundland folk music. This abridgement focuses on the middle of the suite, with a piano reduction of tthe band's part. This is unbuttoned music, and should be sung with lots of salt air in the lungs and wind in the face.
There is a strong Irish presence in Newfoundland, which the Irish call Talamb an Eisc-Land of the Fish. Aside from the plentiful similarities in the music, the two cultures have many other parallels, such as the importance of fishing, and the close relationship that develops between a fisherman and his boat.
